It is based on the Old Ordnance Survey's one inch to the mile (Old Series) maps, published between 1805 and 1874. This was the first accurate national survey and records a time of momentous transition from an agrarian to an industrialised society. A central feature of the Historical Map series is that the originals have been combined, re-scaled and re-projected exactly to match Ordnance Survery's 1:50,000 scale modern-day Landrangers®. They even have the same map identification number and the same British National Grid references. This enables direct comparison of the past and present in a way not possible with maps of different specifications. They are the same size as the Landrangers® when open or folded and have a similar laminated colour cover.
Paper size: 39" x 35" Map size: 31" x 31" Whether you're a local historian, a genealogist, a student, a walker or someone with a general interest in the history of your area, these maps will be a valuable addition to your library.
