Surname Atlas Ref: ASSA
Plot your family surnames from the 1881 census on a map of England, Scotland and Wales. This inexpensive utility program will let you produce maps on screen, zoom in to view just one or two counties and then print your selected area or save as a GIF file for use in documents or on web pages.
This easy to use CD contains over 400,000 different surnames and all you have to do is key in a name and hit enter and almost instantly your map will appear on screen.

GenMap UK Ref: GMUK
GenMap will produce maps showing surname distributions from your own family tree files or from files imported from a variety of sources in various formats. You may edit the maps using various symbols and text before printing for your family tree records or exporting for use in other applications or even simple web pages. It is an easy to use program; for example it will allow you to import from a Gedcom file and set a filter to just show one surname. You may chose to show occurrences of a name with dots on the map or flood fill the counties and show quantities as depth of colour or by numbers or both. Together with the on-screen help and a 48 page user manual this really is a friendly program to use.

Custodian 3 Ref: CUS3
If you are collecting lots of information about people with the same surname who are not necessarily linked, then Custodian 3 will help you sort them out and keep track of them. You may key or import the data via data entry forms and the program will look for possible links between the people you have entered. Custodian 3 is an excellent database for anyone involved in a One-Name study as the software allows you to allocate references to individuals and families.

This version of Custodian has a Name Index, Place Index, Family Group window, Census Sheet and Context Sensitive Help. Version 3 also now has over 100 customisable data entry forms for records such as parish records, civil registration, census returns including extra forms for the USA & Australia.

If you are collecting lots of information about people with the same surname who are not necessarily linked then Custodian 2 will help you sort them out and keep track of them. Custodian 2 is an excellent database for anyone involved in a One-Name study as the software allows you to allocate references to individuals and families.

This version has over 80 forms for records such as parish records, civil registration, census returns and most others you will ever need. Although Custodian 2 does not have as many forms as Custodian 3, and not as much functionality or flexibility it offers good value and may be upgraded at a later date. The manual is supplied on the CD and is not supplied as a printed manual in this version.
This version will run on Windows 95 or any later version of Windows.

LDS Companion Ref: LDSC
Have you ever wanted to download a list of people from the International Genealogical Index™ and then import it into a family tree program or some other favourite database. This utility program will allow you to do just that.
The LDS CD's and website allow you to print pages of information directly from their indexes, and this may be all you ever want to do. But if you want to build a computerised database, e.g. for your own surname, then you have more of a problem. You can export from their indexes, but in a bewildering variety of formats that don't lend themselves easily to reformatting in a common tabular format.

That's where LDS Companion comes in. Its primary function is to convert from the LDS download files into database or spreadsheet files. But it also includes the ability to view the converted files, to print reports, sort the data and even re-export to Gedcom files.
