The National Burial Index (NBI) is a fully searchable database of burial entries recorded in English and Welsh registers - Parish, nonconformist, Roman Catholic, Quaker and cemetery registers. Coverage is incomplete, but over 18.4 million records are indexed in this edition, covering the years 1538-2008.

Each entry provides surname, forname(s), date of burial, age (where given), the parish or cemetery where the event was recorded, whether the date is checked and the family history society, group or individual who extracted the record.

This data is not currently available on any online subscription website.

You will need a PC running Windows 98/XP/Vista or 7, with at least 2.8GB of free disk space and a CD or DVD drive.

In response to previous requests the disc is now a compressed database that must be unpacked onto your hard drive before use. This may be inconvenient for customers who have old computers where space may be running low. In these cases we recommend using a USB Memory Stick or other external storage device. Further instructions can be provided if required.
