Upgrade to Family Historian Version 4

Ref: FH4U
An upgrade CD to convert Family Historian version 3 (and above) into Family Historian v4

All upgrading and installation of existing data is done during the install process.

New Features of Version 4
  • The entire program has been given a makeover, and a new, more attractive look.
  • Family Historian now has an all-new main window, with views for spouses & children, parents & siblings, ancestors and descendants. Adding relatives, and moving around your family tree, is completely intuitive and easy. The program as a whole has been made easier to use than ever.
  • The main 'Property Box' (for data entry) has been completely reworked so that it too is now easier than ever to use. You can set the text size to suit your eyesight, resize the Property Box or 'dock' it to the side of the window. You can also customize it to suit your requirements.
  • Family Historian now has project management capability. You can have as many family tree projects as you wish, and Family Historian will automatically look after all your project files for you (including picture files and other multimedia). Each project is assigned its own folder on your hard disk.
  • Full multi-level undo/redo lets you make changes in confidence, knowing that if you make a mistake you can easily undo it.
  • Full support for same sex relationships has been added.
  • Support for multimedia, and especially pictures, has been significantly enhanced. Thumbnail views make browsing pictures easy. You can now not only have as many pictures as you like for Individuals, Families and Sources - you can also link pictures to events (e.g. pictures of weddings or christenings) and attributes (e.g. pictures of a person's residence or occupation). Adding pictures and multimedia is easier than ever, as is browsing all the pictures in your project - thanks to extensive filtering options, including keyword filtering, in the Multimedia Window. And there is an all-new multimedia report.
  • In addition to the numerous existing file formats, charts and reports can now be saved in PDF format.
  • Extensive power-user features have been added, giving power-users much greater scope to extend and customize the program than ever before. Ordinary users can also benefit through the ability to download program extensions written by power users, from Family Historian user websites - such as the Family Historian User Group website at www.fhug.org.uk.
  • There have been numerous enhancements to charts and diagrams.

Family Historian 4 Training Courses - 17th October 2009 Ref: FH4TC
There are two cancellations, book now before they go! If not we plan to run another course for Family Historian in the spring of 2010. If you would like to go on our emailing list to be informed as soon as we announce the next course please click here...

As a result of requests from many users of the Family Historian (FH) software we are pleased to announce the first training courses to be held at My History on 17 October 2009.

There are two courses planned for the same day:
i) Morning Beginners course
ii) Afternoon Intermediate course

The lecturer for the two courses will be Jane Taubman who runs the Family Historian User Group at www.fhug.org.uk. Jane has used FH for her own family history since version 2 in 2002 and has previously lectured about the software at exhibitions organised by the Society of Genealogists in London. Jane will be well known to user group members as she answers many of the queries that crop up on the user group mailing list.

Date: Saturday 17 October 2009
Venue: Conference Room, Mexborough Business Centre, Mexborough, South Yorkshire, S64 9JP. The Business Centre is just 15 minutes walk from Mexborough railway station. There is a free car park.

Both the morning and afternoon course will consist of two 1 hour lectures, each followed by a 15 minute question and answer session. There will also be a 30 minute hands-on-session and coffee break between the lectures. Please click on the timetable link below for a detailed breakdown of the courses.

Lunch - A buffet lunch will be provided for all participants giving you the opportunity to chat with other Family Historian users from both the morning and afternoon courses. There will also be an opportunity to use the computers that have been set up in the lunch area for further hands-on sessions.

Payment - We will not collect payment from your credit card for the training course until 12th October. We would prefer orders for the course to be placed separately to orders for software. Please avoid sending payment by PayPal if at all possible. Final details for the course will be sent out by post in early October.

Prices and Discounts - The price for each course will be £35 and this is fully inclusive of lunch and refreshments. If you book the morning beginner's course and the afternoon intermediate course then the discounted price will be £60. There will also be a further reduction of £5 each if you book for two people to attend the same course/s. Just phone us and we will arrange your discount.

Customer Reviews/Comments

2 February 2007
- just a quick email to let you know how impressed I am with Family Historian 3.1 - it does everything! Great text reports, fully customisable charts and ready-made webpages - and what's more, it's British!
Gareth W - Hull

I thought it a very nice, intuitive program to use considering it was the first time I'd tried to put a family tree together... (H.H., Tavistock, Devon)

The printing of the manual was a good idea as it is difficult to read such manuals on the screen, and printing them out on home computers is not easy. (D.M., Reading, Berkshire)

Magazine Reviews

Your Family Tree on version 3: "Is it worth upgrading to version 3? Our verdict is definitely ... But it for ... Organising data, superb picture handling and best set charts around" (May 2006).

Computer Shopper reviewed 7 top genealogy programs and gave Family Historian 5 starts and their Best Buy Award (Aug 2004; award given to version 2).

Family Historian also came out top when Computer Active reviewed 6 genealogy programs - they gave it 5 stars ("a dream to use") and their Buy It! Award (June 2003; award given to version 2).
